Are you a NxG?

Within FBN-I, Next Generation members are considered:

  • all family members aged from 18 to around 40
  • who are and/or will be owners of their family business
  • who might play an executive role within the family asset
  • who are either in the process of making their professional decision or in the process of being (fully) empowered.

To be better able to properly address the needs of our members, we individuate four different possible segments.

Segmentation

New LeadersAlmosters
  • in their mid thirties
  • with acquired responsibilities in the business and towards the family.
  • the baton is nearly passed completely, and in any case the succession process is very advanced

Needs
  • Develop both leader and entrepreneurial spirit
  • in the late twenties / early thirties
  • they have decided to enter the family business or
  • actually did but at the beginning or early phases of their working experience in the family business
  • they have to experience a number of relevant challenges, among which the relationship with non family collaborators, customers and other family members

Needs
Develop social skills :
  • Social perceptiveness
  • Behavioral flexibility
  • Communication and persuasion
  • Negotiation
  • Conflict management
ExplorersOutsiders
  • in their early twenties
  • haven’t entered the company
  • they either are still in their education process or have to decide about their first working experience and timing before entering the family business
  • they have no or very few business experience

Needs
  • Develop a “family ownership awareness”
  • Facilitate them in deciding whether and how to join the company
  • they made the decision not to enter the family business and develop their working career in other fields
  • might be directors, and/or involved in governing the family but have no direct role in the management structure.

Needs
  • Develop “family ownership awareness” plus some “business knowledge”
  • Help them recognize business needs and appreciate its performance
